On February 1, 2026, an accident occurred in the Antalya province of Turkey. A bus traveling from Tekirdağ to Antalya overturned in the Döşemealtı district. This crash was very serious, and it caused the deaths of nine people, including the bus driver. Many others, a total of 26 individuals, were injured. Some of these injuries were very severe, with seven people having critical wounds. Some injured passengers even needed amputations, which are surgical removals of limbs.
The area where the accident happened experienced heavy rain and fog at the time. These weather conditions can make driving dangerous because visibility is low and roads can be slippery. According to early reports, the bus was going too fast for the wet and foggy road conditions. This suggests that the bus driver might have been unable to control the vehicle properly due to the weather.
Emergency services responded quickly. Teams including health workers, firefighters, and the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency, known as AFAD, were sent to the scene. They worked to search for and rescue trapped people and to evacuate the injured. Assistance was provided to those hurt in the crash to get them to hospitals quickly.
An investigation has been launched to find out the exact cause of the accident. Officials are examining the scene and the available evidence to understand what led to the bus overturning. This investigation aims to determine whether speed, weather, or other factors played a role.
In addition to this bus crash, there was a second serious accident on the same day. In Burdur province, a head-on collision between two vehicles resulted in seven deaths and five injuries. This adds to concerns about road safety in the country.
Traffic safety officials and government leaders are aware of these incidents. Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya spoke about the need for stronger traffic laws and better traffic safety culture. He noted that in 2024, over 6,300 people lost their lives in traffic accidents across Turkey. This shows that traffic accidents are a serious problem that needs continued attention and action.
These accidents highlight important issues about road safety. Heavy rain and fog are common in the region, and drivers must be extra careful in such weather. Speed limits and safe driving regulations are important to prevent accidents, especially in difficult conditions. Authorities continue to investigate and analyze these incidents to improve safety measures.
The recent crashes underline the importance of following safety rules and procedures on the road. They also remind everyone of the danger posed by unsafe driving or failure to adapt to weather conditions. It is crucial for drivers to obey speed limits and stay alert, especially in rain and fog. The government and traffic safety organizations are expected to review current safety policies and work to reduce future accidents.
In summary, the bus accident in Antalya caused multiple fatalities and injuries and occurred during challenging weather. A separate crash in Burdur also resulted in deaths and injuries, emphasizing ongoing road safety issues. Authorities are investigating the incidents, and experts stress the importance of cautious driving and stronger traffic laws to protect lives.
