Sunetra Pawar is set to become the new Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra. She will take the oath of office on January 31, 2026, at 5 pm. This is an important moment for her and the state. She has accepted this new role and will also manage two important government departments. These are the Excise Department, which deals with alcohol and related issues, and the Sports Department, which is responsible for sports activities and programs in the state.
Right now, the finance portfolio will temporarily stay with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. This means he will take care of the state’s money matters for the time being. Later, it is planned that the finance department will be transferred to the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The NCP is a major political party in Maharashtra, and this move is seen as part of ongoing political negotiations and arrangements.
To make Sunetra Pawar the official leader of the NCP in the state, a meeting of the NCP legislature party is scheduled for January 31. During this meeting, they are expected to choose her as their leader. This is an important step because it officially recognizes her role within the party and makes her the main representative of the NCP in Maharashtra.
Currently, Sunetra Pawar is a member of the Rajya Sabha, which is the upper house of India’s Parliament. She is not yet a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. However, she is expected to run for a seat in the assembly from Baramati. This seat became vacant after her husband, who was a political leader, passed away. Running for this seat will help her become a member of the legislative assembly, which is necessary to hold the position of Deputy Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Fadnavis has said that he does not mind if Sunetra Pawar takes her oath on January 31. But he has also stated that it depends on the NCP legislature party’s agreement. Their approval is important because they need to support her as the leader of the party in the state. The timing of her oath depends on the political discussions and decisions made by the party members.
So far, there has been no official word on some important issues. There is no confirmation about whether the different factions of the NCP will merge into one party. Also, it is not certain if Sunetra Pawar will officially become the leader of the NCP in Maharashtra. These matters are still under discussion, and no final decisions have been announced.
This development is very important in the politics of Maharashtra. It marks a significant change, especially after the death of Ajit Pawar, who was a senior leader and a key figure in the party. Many people are watching closely to see how these political changes will affect the state’s government and leadership.
The situation is still evolving, and it is clear that many discussions are taking place behind the scenes. As of now, officials are waiting to see what decisions are made next. Once the official announcements are made, more clarity will be available about who will lead the NCP in Maharashtra and how the government will be shaped in the coming months.
Overall, this is a crucial time for Maharashtra politics, with new leadership roles being filled and important decisions pending. The coming days will show how these changes will impact the state’s governance and political landscape.
