Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the RSS, has made several important statements about what the organization stands for and its role in India. His comments provide insights into the organization's views on national identity, diversity, and security.
In November 2025, Bhagwat stated that the main aim of the RSS is not to gain power or control over politics. Instead, he emphasized that the organization’s goal is to bring glory to the nation. This message shows that the RSS sees itself as a supporter of national pride rather than a political group seeking influence.
In August 2025, Bhagwat explained that the RSS is not opposed to anyone. When talking about the idea of a 'Hindu Rashtra', or Hindu nation, he said that the group does not want to leave anyone out. This suggests that the organization aims for inclusiveness in its concept of national identity, different from what some might think.
In January 2020, Bhagwat made a clear statement that the RSS does not pursue any power beyond what is in the Constitution of India. He indicated that the organization's focus is to support the existing constitutional framework, not to challenge or replace it with any other authority.
In September 2018, Bhagwat spoke about India's diversity. He said that the RSS does not try to impose its ideas on others and celebrates the variety of cultures, languages, and beliefs in India. This reflects the organization’s stance of respecting India’s many different communities.
Also in September 2018, Bhagwat acknowledged the important role played by the Congress party in India’s struggle for independence. He said that the RSS does not seek to dominate or control others, emphasizing a respectful view of India’s diverse political history.
In August 2025, Bhagwat reiterated that the RSS was not created to destroy anyone. Instead, he said the aim is to organize the entire society, working towards unity and order in the nation.
Regarding security and national strength, in May 2025, Bhagwat stressed that India must be strong against what he called 'wicked' forces on its borders. He said India should not depend on others for its security but should be capable of defending itself.
Throughout his statements, Bhagwat has stressed that the RSS wants only to strengthen the country within the framework of the Constitution. The organization’s focus is on national unity, diversity, and security.
In summary, Mohan Bhagwat has repeatedly emphasized that the RSS’s goals are rooted in promoting national pride, unity, and security, without seeking power or dominance over others. He has clearly stated that the organization respects India’s diversity and does not want to control or weaken other groups or political parties. This consistent message shows the organization’s desire to work within India’s democratic and constitutional system while advancing its vision of a united nation.
