On February 8, 2026, the Mumbai Police announced the arrest of four Bangladeshi nationals. The individuals were taken into custody in Malad East because they were found to be living in Mumbai without valid travel or immigration documents. The police say the arrests followed coordinated operations carried out on February 2, 4, and 6, which were based on intelligence inputs concerning illegal Bangladeshi residents in the area.
The authorities report that during their investigation, the detained individuals admitted to being citizens of Bangladesh. They also confirmed that they had entered India without legal travel or immigration documents. During the operation, the police recovered several documents linked to their Bangladeshi nationality, which are currently being examined as part of the investigation.
Following their arrest, the police have initiated deportation proceedings to send these individuals back to Bangladesh. This legal process is now underway, although specific details about the deportation timeline have not been disclosed. The police emphasize that, as of now, there is no official confirmation that these individuals are involved in any criminal activities outside their residence status.
No additional information has been confirmed regarding how these individuals obtained their forged documents, nor about how long they had been living in India before their arrest. Authorities have not revealed whether any connections to other illegal activities or networks have been identified, nor whether these arrests might lead to further investigations.
The incident occurred in the context of ongoing efforts by law enforcement to address illegal immigration and unauthorized residence. While the police have taken these steps, there is no current information about the broader impact of these arrests on the issue of illegal immigration in Mumbai.
As of the latest update, there have been no reports of previous arrests of these individuals for similar offenses, nor details about their interactions with local residents or other law enforcement agencies. The actions taken appear to be part of routine operations based on specific intelligence, but no official confirmation has been provided regarding additional security measures or future plans to tackle illegal immigration in this area.
Furthermore, there has been no official statement regarding the role of special units such as the Anti-Terrorism Cell or other agencies in this specific operation. The police also have not commented on public reactions or whether any other arrests might follow in connection with this case. Details regarding the specific locations within Malad East involved in the operation are also not publicly available.
In summary, the police emphasize that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to manage illegal immigration.
