A new multi-level car parking facility has been opened at Kollam Junction Railway Station. The inauguration took place on February 14, 2026, and was led by Suresh Gopi, who is the Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Tourism. This new parking structure is part of the station’s development efforts to make travel easier for passengers.
The parking lot is a five-storey building covering around 11,450 square metres. It was built to help manage the increasing number of travelers and vehicles. The facility can hold over 200 two-wheelers and more than 130 four-wheelers at the same time, making it easier for visitors to park their vehicles close to the station.
The project cost less than 30 crore rupees to complete. It is located near Puthiyakavu Temple and next to the railway station itself. Its position allows easy access to the nearby highway, helping travelers move quickly between the station and other parts of the city.
This parking facility is part of broader efforts to improve the station’s infrastructure. It is included in ongoing redevelopment work at Kollam Junction. The goal of these improvements is to make the station more comfortable and convenient for passengers.
Many people attended the opening event, including Members of Parliament, local government officials, MLAs, the district panchayat president, and city councillors. Passengers and members of the public also participated, showing the community’s interest in this new facility.
As of February 16, 2026, there has been no official statement confirming that the parking facility is officially open for use. Although the inauguration ceremony took place two days earlier, authorities have not yet announced its operational status.
This new parking lot aims to support the ongoing development of Kollam Junction. It reflects efforts to modernize infrastructure and improve the travel experience for commuters. The facility will help reduce congestion, provide more options for vehicle parking, and make the station more accessible.
In summary, the multi-level parking structure at Kollam Junction is a significant addition to the station’s facilities. It highlights the focus on improving transportation infrastructure and passenger services. Continued updates from officials are expected to confirm when the parking lot will be fully operational for travelers.
