On January 27, 2026, a tragic incident occurred in Kotturu, Vijayanagara district, Karnataka. A 24-year-old man named Akshay Kumar is accused of killing his father, mother, and sister. The victims are identified as Bhimaraj, who was 50 years old, Jayalakshmi, aged 45, and Amrutha, who was 17.
The murders took place at the family’s rented house in Kotturu. After the incident, Kumar left the scene and traveled to Bengaluru. There, he reported that his family members were missing, filing a missing persons complaint at the Tilaknagar police station.
Police initially investigated Kumar’s statements but observed discrepancies during questioning. This led to increased suspicion. Under further interrogation, Kumar confessed to the murders and revealed that he had buried the bodies inside the house in Kottur.
Following the confession, authorities exhumed the bodies from the house to perform post-mortem examinations. These examinations are part of standard procedures to confirm the cause of death and gather evidence.
The investigation into the motive behind the killings is ongoing. Preliminary reports suggest that a family dispute, possibly related to property issues, might have played a role. However, no official motive has been confirmed at this stage.
The family originally came from Chitradurga district. Over the years, they moved multiple times for work purposes. They had built a house valued at about Rs 1.5 crore in Davangere district and relocated to Kottur about two years ago.
Akshay Kumar was taken into custody in connection with the case. Police continue their investigation to understand the circumstances leading to the murders. The case remains under active review as authorities seek to establish a clear motive and gather further evidence.
This incident highlights the importance of thorough police investigations in such serious cases. Authorities aim to provide clarity and justice based on verified facts. The case underscores the significance of safety and law enforcement in resolving complex situations involving family violence.
