India has successfully tested its Agni-3 missile. The test took place on February 6, 2026, from the Integrated Test Range in Chandipur, Odisha. The test was conducted by the Strategic Forces Command. This successful launch verified that all operational and technical features of the missile are working correctly.
The Agni-3 missile is an intermediate-range ballistic missile. It can travel up to 3,500 km. This means it can reach targets far away within the region. The missile is capable of carrying nuclear warheads, which makes it a significant part of India's defense system.
The Agni-3 missile has been tested several times before. Its first test was on July 9, 2006, from Wheeler Island off Odisha’s coast. Follow-up tests, including successful launches in April 2007, May 2008, and February 2010, further showed it could perform reliably. More recent tests include a successful launch on November 23, 2022, from the APJ Abdul Kalam Island in Odisha.
The missile is approximately 17 meters long and 2 meters in diameter. It weighs around 2,200 kg and is powered by a two-stage solid propellant engine. It can carry a warhead weighing up to 1.5 tonnes, including nuclear and conventional options. The missile can travel at a velocity of 5,000 meters per second.
The Agni-3 missile is the most powerful and capable weapon in India’s missile inventory. It extends India’s regional power projection by allowing deployment from various platforms. The successful test reinforces India’s strategic defense posture and readiness.
This test demonstrates India’s continued focus on technological development and strategic security. The validation of all missile parameters ensures its readiness for potential operational use. Such tests are important for maintaining and improving national defense capabilities.
Overall, this successful launch reflects India’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its missile systems. It supports the country’s goals for strategic deterrence and regional stability. The successful test underscores India’s capability to develop and maintain advanced missile technology.
