India has been named the 'Country of the Year' at BIOFACH 2026, the world’s leading trade fair for organic products. The event will be held in Nuremberg, Germany from February 10 to 13, 2026. This distinction shows India's increasing importance in the international organic products sector.
The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority, or APEDA, which operates under India's Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is organizing India’s participation at the event. This effort is part of a larger plan to promote Indian organic products on the global stage.
India’s participation at BIOFACH 2026 is larger than previous years. This expansion reflects the growth of Indian organic exports and a rising global demand for organic products. Indian participants are showcasing a broad variety of organic items. They include rice, oilseeds, herbs, spices, pulses, cashew, ginger, turmeric, large cardamom, cinnamon, mango puree, and essential oils.
The India Pavilion at the fair covers an area of 1,074 square meters. It features 67 co-exhibitors, which are a mix of exporters, Farmer Producer Organizations, cooperatives, organic laboratories, state government organizations, and commodity boards. Exhibitors come from more than 20 states and Union Territories across India. This diversity represents the country’s wide agricultural and regional variety.
Visitors to the India Pavilion will experience a range of curated food tastings. They can sample dishes like aromatic biryani made with premium organic basmati rice and spices. The pavilion also showcases five varieties of rice that have Geographical Indication or GI tags. These include Indrayani rice, Navara rice, Gobindbhog rice, Red rice, and Chak Hao or Black rice.
To support its role as the 'Country of the Year,' India has carried out extensive branding and promotional activities. These efforts have taken place at several prominent locations across the Nuremberg Messe Exhibition Centre, enhancing visibility and attracting attention to Indian organic products.
As of February 11, 2026, there has been no official confirmation regarding specific results or agreements from India’s participation in BIOFACH 2026. The event is seen as a significant platform for India to increase its presence in the international organic market and to promote its diverse range of organic products.
Why it matters: Recognizing India as the 'Country of the Year' at a major global trade event highlights the country’s growing role in organic agriculture. The event also helps promote Indian organic products and encourages sustainable farming practices.
Important numbers include the size of the India Pavilion at over 1,000 square meters and the participation of more than 20 states and union territories. The 67 co-exhibitors showcase India’s diverse organic offerings, which include various food products and regional specialties.
