The Indian government is working to introduce artificial intelligence, or AI, into its education system. This effort is part of a larger initiative to modernize and improve learning for students across India.
On February 12, 2026, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the Bharat Bodhan AI Conclave 2026. This event was created to promote the use of AI in education and to develop new ways for schools and colleges to benefit from this technology.
One of the key results of this event was the introduction of the Bharat EduAI Stack. This is an open and interoperable system designed to support AI-powered learning solutions all over India. It aims to make AI tools easier to access and use in different educational settings.
During the conclave, several important partnerships were announced. One notable partnership is between IIT Bombay and Columbia University. They plan to establish a Centre of AI for Manufacturing at IIT Bombay. This center will focus on applying AI to improve manufacturing skills and education.
Another partnership includes the Indian Institute of Management Lucknow, which has launched the IIM Lucknow AI Programme. This program aims to build stronger AI capabilities within the management education sector.
Minister Pradhan highlighted the importance of developing AI that is responsible, ethical, India-centric, and scalable. He emphasized that AI should be used to transform education and help India achieve its goal of Viksit Bharat, or a developed India.
He also expressed confidence that the ideas shared during the conclave would help boost India’s capacity in AI. The goal is to strengthen India’s leadership in the field, create a digital public infrastructure for education, and ensure that AI benefits everyone.
As of February 2026, there has been no official confirmation about specific timelines for implementing AI changes in schools or detailed information about curriculum updates. The focus remains on building foundational infrastructure and partnerships to support future growth.
This initiative is part of India’s broader effort to embrace new technologies and prepare its education system for the future. By fostering responsible and ethical AI use, the government aims to improve learning outcomes for students in all parts of the country.
