The attack caused the death of at least 32 people. It also led to the abduction of some residents, although the exact number remains unknown.
During the incident, the gunmen operated without the presence of security forces. This allowed them to carry out the attacks without interference, leading to a high number of casualties. In Tunga-Makeri, six people lost their lives, and some residents were taken away by the attackers. In Konkoso, 26 people were killed. The violence shocked local communities and increased fears for safety in the region.
The attack is part of a broader security crisis in northern Nigeria. The region faces ongoing problems with both Islamic militants and armed gangs. Earlier in February 2026, Nigeria experienced a deadly incident in neighboring Kwara State. There, 162 people lost their lives in another attack. These series of violent events highlight growing security concerns across the country.
The situation has led to criticism of the Nigerian government. The U.S. government has expressed concern about the protection of civilians. They have criticized Nigerian authorities for not doing enough to keep communities safe. In response, the U.S. has formed a security partnership with Nigeria. This includes the presence of U.S. military and targeted strikes against armed groups operating within Nigeria.
Understanding why these incidents happen and their impact on communities is important. Violence in the region causes loss of life, trauma, and displacement of people. It also hampers development and stability in Nigeria. Efforts to improve security and protect civilians remain urgent.
Key highlights include that the attack occurred in three communities, left at least 32 dead, and happened without security forces nearby. The violence is part of larger ongoing conflicts involving various armed groups in northern Nigeria.
Important dates and numbers to remember are that the attack took place on February 14, 2026, with a death toll of at least 32 people. Earlier in the same month, another attack in Kwara State resulted in 162 fatalities. These figures illustrate the severity of the security challenges in Nigeria.
