Kerala is currently updating its voters' list to ensure accurate voting records for the upcoming assembly elections scheduled for 2026. This process is called the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). It is an important task that involves reviewing and correcting the list of registered voters in the state.
Recently, the Chief Electoral Officer of Kerala announced that the hearings for people who might be wrongly included or excluded from the voters' list have been completed in most areas. The hearings took place in 122 assembly constituencies for this purpose.
The goal of these hearings is to identify and remove ineligible voters from the list. As of February 13, 2026, over 39,000 names have been permanently removed from the list. This step is part of the process to keep the voters' list accurate and reliable.
The final voters' list based on the current revision process is scheduled to be published on February 21, 2026. This means the list will be officially available for public review, and citizens can verify their details before the elections.
While most hearings have been completed, some areas still need to finish this process. Hearings are still pending in three constituencies in North Kerala, which are Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Kannur, as well as in one in South Kerala, which is Kollam. These remaining hearings are important steps before finalizing the voters' list.
The constituency with the highest number of pending hearings is Peravur in Kannur. As of now, there are 218 hearings yet to be conducted in that area. The completion of these hearings is crucial to ensure every eligible voter is correctly recorded and ineligible voters are removed.
This entire revision process is being carried out under strict deadlines. It is an effort to meet the time requirements for preparing the election process, which is very soon scheduled to start.
Updating the voters' list is a standard part of election preparations and helps maintain the integrity of the electoral process. Accurate lists prevent voting errors and ensure the right people participate in elections.
The Election Commission and the Kerala authorities emphasize the importance of this process. They aim to complete all hearings and publish the final list on time so that voters can check their details and make any necessary corrections.
In summary, Kerala is actively working on updating its voters' list through hearings and removals. Most of these hearings are now completed, with some remaining in specific areas. The final list will be published soon, helping to prepare for the upcoming assembly elections.
This process highlights the ongoing efforts to keep electoral records accurate and up-to-date. Properly managed voter lists are essential for free and fair elections, ensuring that every eligible citizen can vote without issues.
